Bonnie Eileen Patterson died from a heart condition Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, in Mancos. She was 69.
Mrs. Patterson was born to Allen and Olive Crawford on Dec. 20, 1943, in Durango. She grew up on a family ranch in Hesperus, attended the old Fort Lewis Elementary School and graduated from Durango High School.
In the early 1960s, she married her first husband, George Leon Patterson, and they moved to Virginia because of Mr. Patterson’s military transfers. The couple returned to Durango in 1981. The marriage later ended in divorce.
She loved to garden and camp, especially in La Plata Canyon, according to her family, who also said that summertime was her favorite season.
Mrs. Patterson met her future husband, Jon Barnett, at a mutual friend’s wedding in Durango. The couple married on June 11, 1994, in Lake Tahoe, Nev.
Mrs. Patterson was preceded in death by her son Patrick (Schoen) Patterson.
She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Jon Barnett of Hesperus; daughter, Sherry Patterson of Cortez; siblings Bruce Crawford, Mike Crawford and Marc Crawford, all of Hesperus, John Crawford of Mancos, Patricia Moore of Corrales, N.M., and Ron Crawford of Denver; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at noon Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Hood Mortuary 1261 East Third Ave. A funeral service will take place afterward at 2 p.m., also at Hood. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
