When Gov. John Hickenlooper was in town Saturday for the celebration of life for Peter Carver, he wasn’t wearing his governor’s hat.
“I’m John tonight,” he said about attending the event to support longtime friend Bill Carver, Peter’s father. The two men got to know each other through their mutual business interests in the microbrewery industry.
Hickenlooper spoke at the celebration and read a poem by Pablo Neruda.
After the service, close friends and family moved to Carver Brewing Co. for a New Orleans-style wake with dancing to the music of the Hill Stompers from Los Alamos, N.M.
“What happens at Carver’s, stays at Carver’s,” one guest reassured the guv.
Peter Carver died in an avalanche north of Silverton Mountain Ski Area on Feb. 2. He was 23.
