About 150 people in Durango, including Suzanne Sibley, front, turned out for One Billion Rising, “a single-day global action consisting primarily of dance strikes” intended to draw attention to the problem of violence against women, according to the event’s website. Maura Demko, executive director of Sexual Assault Services Organization, who organized a local action Thursday afternoon at Buckley Park, said 1 in 4 women and 1 in 17 men in Colorado have been the victims of sexual violence. Demko said at last count, there were similar actions taking place in 192 countries.
