IHS girls dig into the Miners

Herald Staff Report

One more for a league title.

The Ignacio High School girls basketball team beat Telluride 54-47 on Saturday in Telluride, positioning the Bobcats for a San Juan Basin League championship with a victory over Norwood next weekend at home.

“A little sluggish play,” IHS head coach Justa Whitt said. “Not the best win we’ve had, but hey, we got the win, and that’s what matters at this point.”

Michelle Simmons led all scorers with 16 points, followed by 12 each from Cloe Seibel and Valerie Armstrong.

Mariah Vigil added seven, and Jordan Cuthair scored five.

The Bobcats led throughout play, Whitt said, going up by as many as 19 and holding a consistent gap.

The Bobcats (11-7, 6-1 SJBL) will play undefeated Norwood at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at IHS.
