At a heavy Class 2A regional tournament, the Bobcats’ heavyweight earned a spot at the state tournament.
The Ignacio High School wrestling team had five regional tournament placers in Grand Junction, punctuated by heavyweight Josh Gallegos’ fourth-place finish that will take him to the CHSAA Class 2A Wrestling State Championships next weekend at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
“He earned his right to go,” IHS head coach Bob Overturf said.
Keith Joosten took fifth at 113.
Taylor Smith took fifth at 120.
Kyle Bailey took sixth at 126.
Javen Webb took sixth at 195.
“I’m telling you what, that region is tough,” Overturf said. “And my boys wrestled tough. They wrestled tough. That’s all I can say.”
