Durango Fire & Rescue receives certificate

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to Durango Fire & Rescue Authority by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report.

The certificate is the highest form of recognition for governmental accounting and financial reporting. The award has been given to Eric Baker, finance director.

The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet standards including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story, and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

Wildfire Mitigation announces members

The Wildfire Mitigation Professionals Association has elected these people to the 2013 board of directors: Ron Tyner, president; Jon Westrup, vice president; Tam-my Tyner, secretary; Dan Bowman, treasurer; and Dan MacVeigh, board member.

Daniel “DanO” Ochocki has been dedicated the first WMPA honorary member based on his outstanding contribution to the industry. Ochocki is the retired Durango District Forester with Colorado State Forest Service, owner of The Branch Manager, and is employed by Durango Fire & Rescue Authority as a wildland fire specialist.

WMPA partners with U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Colorado State Forest Service, FireWise of Southwest Colorado, county offices, local fire-protection districts, and the insurance industry to reduce the risk of wildfire and increase wildfire preparedness.

Public library to offer business workshop

Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave., will offer a workshop from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday about the business databases and titles available in its Business Information Center.

The “Business Resources Overview” workshop will be lead by Business Librarian Donna Arment who will review the two new business databases, along with other business resources the library has to offer.

From market research to industry snapshots, these sources contain a wealth of information to assist in business research. There is no cost to attend, but seating is limited.

Licensed psychologist announces new hire

The office of Douglas E. Miller, licensed psychologist, announces the addition of Jennie Albert, who is serving as an intern providing low-cost counseling services for children, adolescents and adults.

She specializes in grief and loss, mood disorders and teen struggles.

Alpine Hospice, Home Health changes name

Harden Healthcare, a Texas-based senior health care services provider with operations in 13 states, announces two of its subsidiaries, Alpine Hospice and Alpine Home Health, will change their names to Harden Hospice Colorado and Harden Home Health Colorado respectively, effective immediately.

The name changes are part of a companywide rebranding effort that will result in more consistency among Harden companies, and no other operational changes are anticipated. Harden Hospice Colorado will continue to provide hospice services for end-of-life care while Harden Home Health Colorado will provide a range of skilled nursing services in patients’ homes.

Area firm announces addition of new CPA

Tafoya Barrett and Associates announces the addition of Leah Bathen to the firm.

Bathen graduated from of the University of New Hampshire with a degree in economics and has recently completed the CPA exam. She also brings with her eight years of bookkeeping experience. As a resident of Durango, Bathen worked to establish an independent business alliance, resulting in the Be Local coupon book and has volunteered with several other nonprofits in the community.
