Hit gun manufacturers in the pocketbook

A story in the Feb. 9 Herald described how the NRA operates to weaken reasonable gun laws in the United States. In the recent issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, Boston pediatricians describe the need for protecting our youths, who die at a rate of more than 6,000 per year from gun wounds. For years, the Academy of Pediatrics has recommended much stronger gun laws, but neither the NRA nor the media has listened. Guns kill many more children than cancer or infections or other types of accidents.

What can be done when the NRA money brokers will not listen to common sense spoken by pillars of our society who care for our children? We should turn off the propaganda of Fox news and Rush Limbaugh, who stupidly say that we need more guns to protect ourselves.

And we can strike the gun manufacturers where it hurts in the pocketbook. Call up your pension plan, broker or whoever you have stocks with, and tell them to get rid of any gun or ammunitions stocks in your portfolio.

Furthermore, stop buying gun magazines that advocate NRA ideas or that seem to advocate violence with guns. They are our stocks, it is our money, and we should not invest in companies that promote violence.

Thank you.
