BHS girls: A bad night to go cold

Bayfield High School girls basketball head coach Ronnie Posey perhaps put it best when asked about Thursday’s performance.

“It was really bad timing to have a bad night.”

The Wolverines (8-11, 2-6 IML) shot 24 percent from the field and fell 47-36 at Alamosa, dropping them into a pigtail game in the Intermountain League Tournament on Tuesday, which Posey said he thinks will be in Bayfield against Monte Vista.

“We couldn’t hit anything,” Posey said. “We had good looks. Most of those misses came in the paint. We were getting the shots we wanted. We just could not put them in.”

And the inability to make shots impacted Bayfield’s pressure defense.

“We were just chasing all night long after missed shots,” Posey said. “Our defense wasn’t bad. We just had to scramble all night chasing after missed shots.

“It kicks you out of everything else you want to do.

“We were playing for third; now we’re playing just to make the tournament. I can’t fault the girls for their effort. It was just bad timing for a bad night.”
