Youth hockey team 4th-best in Colorado

Flanked by assistant coach Heather Erb, the Durango U14 girls claimed fourth place at the state tournament last weekend in Denver with a 2-2 record. The girls, despite the fourth-place finish, led the tournament in several categories.

Durango’s U14 girls hockey team skated off the Edge Ice Arena last weekend in Denver with an interesting stat sheet.

Durango scored the most goals at the state tournament.

Durango allowed the fewest goals at the state tournament.

Durango recorded the most shots at the state tournament.

Durango, however, lost a pair of 1-0 games in the middle of the tournament to Steamboat Springs and Santa Fe to finish fourth overall.

Durango went 2-2 at the tournament, with a tournament-opening 2-0 victory over Aspen and a tournament-ending 5-2 victory over Gunnison.

“They played their hearts out, and I’m very proud of them,” Durango head coach Dell Truax said in an email to The Durango Herald.

Lane Arnwine and Maia Collins also were the two highest goal scorers at the state tournament.

The Durango U14s are Arnwine, Kaleigh Bayer, Collins, Kirsten Fogel, Brynn Nelson, Grace Pansze, Oli Sakadinsky, Amanda Sexton, Cori Truax and Caleigh Walker. The team is coached by Truax and Heather Erb.
