Blood drive to benefit Redwine fund

The second of two blood drives in which United Blood Services has pledged $5 for each donation toward the Dylan Redwine reward fund will be held Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

The first was held Feb. 22 in Bayfield.

Dylan was 13 when he disappeared Nov. 19 from his father’s home in Vallecito. He was visiting from the Front Range where his mother had moved after her divorce.

The reward fund tops $50,000.

Separately, United Blood Services has another blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. March 25 at the Pine Valley Church of the Foursquare Gospel, 1328 County Road 501.

Doug Hellman, a retired market researcher from Texas, who coordinates three campaigns a year for the blood agency, has offered a painting for a drawing among three-time donors this year – March, July and November.

The framed painting, a landscape he created in acrylics, measures 20 inches by 16 inches, Hellman said Saturday. Hellman has coordinated drives for the blood agency for about eight years since moving from Dallas.
