Lotus’ Raikkonen dominates F1’s Australian GP for No. 20

MELBOURNE, Australia – Kimi Raikkonen won Formula One’s season-opening Australian Grand Prix on Sunday, jumpstarting Lotus’ bid to challenge the series’ bigger teams for the 2013 championship.

The Finn needed only two pit stops compared to three stops for each of the six men who followed in his wake, and he became the 15th driver in F1 history to record 20 grand prix wins.

Ciolek says ciao to Italy’s Milan-San Remo classic

SAN REMO, Italy – Gerald Ciolek won the Milan-San Remo classic Sunday, sprinting to victory in a race which was affected heavily by bad weather conditions in Northern Italy.

Ciolek edged out favorite Peter Sagan, surging past the Slovakian in the final meters to win in 5 hours, 37 minutes, 20 seconds.

Streelman the man of steel in first PGA Tour victory

PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Kevin Streelman won in his 153rd start on the PGA Tour, and the win puts him into the Masters for the second time in his career.

Streelman didn’t make a bogey over the final 37 holes on the tough Copperhead course at Innisbrook. He didn’t miss a shot over the last 11 holes Sunday on his way to a 4-under 67. That gave him a two-shot win over Boo Weekley in the Tampa Bay Championship.

BANGKOK – Prayad Marksaeng shot a final-round 64 for a 24-under-par total of 264 to win the Thailand Open on Sunday.

PHOENIX – Stacy Lewis won the LPGA Founders Cup on Sunday to jump to No. 1 in the world; she closed with an 8-under 64 at Desert Ridge to finish with a tournament-record 23-under 265.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – David Frost won the Toshiba Classic on Sunday, shooting a final-round 65 to defeat Fred Couples by five strokes and tie the tournament record of 19-under 194 set by Jay Haas in 2007.

After papergate, Dumervil gives agent walking papers

ENGLEWOOD – Defensive lineman Elvis Dumervil parted ways with his agent after a paperwork mix-up forced the Denver Broncos to waive him instead of signing him to an $8-million contract.

Dumervil and the Broncos came to an agreement Friday for the defensive lineman to take a $4-million pay cut. But Dumervil’s agent, Marty Magid, didn’t fax the signed contract to the Broncos in time to meet Friday’s 1:59 p.m. deadline, and the Broncos cut Dumervil so they wouldn’t be on the hook for the $12 million they owed him in the original contract.

Nadal, Sharapova champion Indian Wells’ masters titles

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Rafael Nadal rallied from a set and 1-3 down in the second to beat Juan Martin del Potro 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the BNP Paribas Open final Sunday, giving the Spaniard his third title in four tournaments since returning from a seven-month injury layoff.

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Maria Sharapova defeated Caroline Wozniacki 6-2, 6-2 to win her first title of the year at the BNP Paribas Open on Sunday in a final between two former top-ranked players.

Neureuther wins Cup slalom; Maze wins women’s GS

LENZERHEIDE, Switzerland – Felix Neureuther of Germany defied the pain of a back injury to edge out overall World Cup champion Marcel Hirscher and win the men’s season-ending slalom Sunday.

LENZERHEIDE, Switzerland – Tina Maze got the anger out of her system Sunday, one day after her heartbreaking World Cup slalom title defeat to American teenager Mikaela Shiffrin.

The Slovenian racer’s 11th World Cup victory this season extended her record overall points total to 2,414.
