Former Durango resident Jim Jennings died of complications of Alzheimer’s disease Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Heritage Healthcare in Valdosta, Ga. He was 64.
Mr. Jennings was born to James Henry and Clara Anna Minard Jennings on March 29, 1948, in Brookline, Mass.
He was a retired business executive. He and his wife, Carol, owned Wayne’s Window Coverings for several years while living in Durango.
A lifetime member of Rotary, in Durango, he was a member of the High Noon Rotary Club.
“From an early age, Jim thoroughly enjoyed reading, from milk cartons to Shakespeare,” his family said. “He next fell in love with sailing, a love affair that spanned Boston’s Charles River to the Caribbean. He was an avid hiker and camper; Colorado’s highest peaks and myriad backpack trails were well known to him. And he was a world traveler, who made his mark in Europe and Australia alike.”
Mr. Jennings also loved animals and was a fine-wine connoisseur.
Upon arriving in Valdosta in October 2006, he enjoyed being involved in Valdosta State University’s Learning in Retirement program and the local YMCA. He attended Crossroads Baptist Church in Valdosta.
Mr. Jennings is survived by his wife, Carol Lynn Jennings of Valdosta; sister, Carol Agnes Norris of Valdosta; one niece and one nephew; and two great-nephews.
A memorial service was held Friday, March 15, 2013, in the chapel at the Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta. The Rev. W. Glenn Gray officiated.
