Sailors show off 40-year patch

The Steamboat Springs Sailors have about 36 years of experience on the Durango High School boys lacrosse team.

Friday night, it showed.

The Sailors possessed the ball for “probably 44 of the 48 minutes,” DHS head coach John Robinette said, won 14 of 17 faceoffs and beat the Demons 17-3 on Friday in Grand Junction in a Mountain League matchup.

“For the amount of time that they were on offense, only allowing 17 goals is kind of a feat,” Robinette said.

“But, you know, I mean there were flashes of greatness at times.”

DHS won the third quarter 3-1 on six shots.

The rest of the game? Advantage, Sailors.

Credit the patch on the Sailors’ jerseys denoting their 40 years of varsity lacrosse; Durango has had its program for four.

Jared Cook had a goal and two assists, Wesley Komick had a goal, Liam Millar added a third, and Jacob Boyle tallied an assist for DHS (1-4, 0-4 Mountain League).
