IHS girls soccer chilled by Center’s cold

The Bobcats didn’t have enough vigor for a victory.

The Ignacio High School girls soccer team lost 8-0 at Center on Saturday.

“Our energy level wasn’t up to theirs. We didn’t have much energy,” first-year head coach Oscar Cosio said.

“But it was so cold up there and windy,” he said.

Cosio, who served as an assistant coach at IHS for a few years before taking over the program, said the Bobcats made some costly mistakes that got the girls down early.

“They really surprised as far as their improvement and their effort,” Cosio said of the Vikings.

The Bobcats beat Center 4-1 last year for their lone win.

But Cosio said he saw some good improvement among a few of his players.

Tristan Vicker-Boone and Angel Paul both stepped up Saturday, he said, and Cheyenne Kirk came closest to scoring a goal with a nice run down the right side of the field.

“Just missed it by inches,” Cosio said.

Ignacio (0-2) will play Bayfield at 4 p.m. Friday at Wolverine Country Stadium at BHS.
