Longtime Cortez resident Cherol Kae Acree died after a long battle with brain cancer Saturday, March 23, 2013, at her home. She was 63.
Mrs. Acree was born to Donald Rae and Dorothy Mirebell (Shearer) Sanders on Sept. 13, 1949, in Cortez.
She grew up in Dolores, graduating from Dolores County High School in Dove Creek.
Mrs. Acree later moved to Cortez where she met her future husband, Gary Boothe. After their marriage, they moved to Farmington, and the couple had two children together. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Mrs. Acree worked in medical billing for the Dolores Medical Center.
She married Mark Acree on Sept. 1, 1989, in Cortez and had lived there since then. The Acrees welcomed their daughter, Sarah, to the family and later raised their granddaughter Ashlee Cruzan.
Mrs. Acree loved working in her yard and grew beautiful flowers, her family said.
Mrs. Acree is survived by her husband of 23 years, Mark Acree, of Cortez; children, Shane Boothe of California, Shona Fish of North Dakota and Sarah Bellew of Montana; siblings Nova Slavens and David Sanders, both of Cortez, and Murna Hinton of Mesa, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Ertel Memorial Chapel, 42 N. Market St. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, also at Ertel. Chaplain Marvin Graves will officiate. Burial will take place afterward at Cortez Cemetery.
