Looks like the Wolverines don’t have to play well to win.
The Bayfield High School girls soccer team beat Pagosa Springs 3-0 on Tuesday in an Intermountain League rivalry game in Pagosa Springs.
“It went alright,” BHS head coach Jen Zelinski said. “We didn’t play great. We definitely didn’t win balls out of the air. I guess it’s good to know you can win when you’re not playing well.”
Effie Nistler scored all three goals for Bayfield, her second hat trick of the season. She scored the first in a 9-1 win over Ridgway last week.
“(Tuesday) she said her goal is to get to 10 goals this week. I think she needs two to get there,” Zelinksi said.
“Her speed. It’s hard to stop her speed. Most girls can’t catch her.”
Grace Harvey and Jaida Ross each tallied an assist.
In goal for the Wolverines, Charlene Hammit and Andrea Lahoz split time, one half each for the victory.
“They both did a great job,” Zelinski said. “Stopped some breakaways, stopped some big plays.”
Bayfield (5-2, 3-1 IML) will host Ignacio in its Pine River rivalry game at 4 p.m. Friday at Wolverine Country Stadium.
