Pagosa Springs resident Marilyn Joyce Winter died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at her home. She was 84.
Known as Joyce, she was born to John Daniel and Erna Emma Gilbert on Feb. 21, 1929, in Goodland, Kan., where she graduated from high school.
Mrs. Winter attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
On June 14, 1951, she married Donald Wayne Winter in Goodland. The couple had three children, whom they raised in Burlington until they moved to Pagosa Springs in 1978.
Mrs. Winter worked alongside her husband at The First National Bank in Burlington and Citizen’s Bank of Pagosa Springs.
“Joyce cherished every second that she spent with her family,” her family said. “She was a wonderful cook and had many talents. Her greatest achievement in life was being a mother and grandmother. She always put her family before herself.”
Mrs. Winter was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Donald Winter; and grandson Joseph Wayne Winter.
She is survived by her sons Dan Winter of Pagosa Springs and David Winter of Castle Rock; daughter, Susan Anderson, of Parker; brother, Bob Gilbert, of Toledo, Ohio; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one niece; and three great-nieces and one great-nephew.
Cremation has occurred. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 26, 2013, at Hilltop Cemetery in Pagosa Springs, where Mrs. Winter’s ashes will be buried next to her husband.
