DHS golf consistent at Tiara Rado

Consistency is becoming a constant for the Durango High School girls golf team.

Five Demons posted scores under 100 on Tuesday at Tiara Rado in Grand Junction.

Sophomore Reiley Waldo, who played in the No. 1 slot, shot a 90 to lead the team.

“I think she’s understanding that she’s not that far off from any of the other No. 1s that are out there,” DHS head coach Kirk Rawles said. “It’s just good to get her some exposure in that and get some confidence going.”

Haleigh Lyon shot a 95 and Brooke Kniffin a 97.

Natalie Lyon and Jessica Pohlman each shot a 98 – a career low round for Pohlman.

“She was pretty excited about that,” Rawles said.

Amanda Rydiger shot 116 and Courtney Peterson 118 to round out Durango’s field.

Kelly Moran of Farview was the medalist, shooting a 75.

But Grand Junction and Grand Junction Central tied for the top team score with 279. Durango was only three points off at 282.

The Durango girls will host half of the Southwestern League championships at 10 a.m. on April 15 at Hillcrest Golf Club.

Cortez will host the second half at 9 a.m. April 16 at Conquistador Golf Course.
