Ignacio resident Kathleen T. Gomez died of complications of diabetes Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango. She was 47.

Known as “Kata,” she was born to Teodoro and Genevieve Gomez on Nov. 23, 1965, in Durango. One of 10 children, she grew up in Ignacio and graduated from Ignacio High School in 1985.

“Kata loved to dance, and she loved her nephews and nieces,” her family said. “She also enjoyed partying with family and friends and Spanish music. No one was a stranger to Kata.”

Miss Gomez is survived by her siblings, Ted Gomez Jr., Inez Martinez, Mike Gomez, Dolores Gomez and Marie Howe, all of Ignacio, Leora Bostick of Aztec and Frank Gomez of San Jose, Calif.; companion, Jackson Payne of Ignacio; 15 nephews and nieces; 26 great-nephews and nieces; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws.

Cremation will occur. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today, April 12, 2013, at St. Peter-St. Rosa Catholic Church in Arboles. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, also at St. Peter-St. Rosa. Burial of the cremated remains will take place afterward at the Rosa Cemetery.
