Toney Bert ‘Sonny’ Beaver Jr.

Toney Bert Beaver Jr., father of Bayfield resident Clinton Beaver, died Thursday, April 18, 2013, at his home in Cortez. He was 73.

Known as “Sonny,” he was born to Ollie (Church) and Toney B. Beaver Sr. on April 27, 1939, in Eminence, Mo.

On June 4, 1956, he married Gracie Dolores Fennell in Aztec. The couple lived in Cortez and Oklahoma, raising three children

Mr. Beaver owned a heating, ventilation and air-conditioning business in Durango before going to work at Comfort Air Mechanical Inc. He spent 21 years with the company and was the head of custom sheet metal.

In his free time, he built wooden toy cars for needy children, giving many away each year at Christmas. Mr. Beaver also gave the toys to organizations that help children in need. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

“He was a very generous and giving man,” his family said.

Mr. Beaver is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gracie Beaver of Cortez; son, Clinton Beaver of Bayfield; daughters Debbie Dutton of Collinsville, Okla., and Rhonda Cornelius of Sallisaw, Okla.; brother, Jimmy Beaver of Cortez; sister Marium Pierce of Broken Arrow, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at Ertel Memorial Chapel, 42 N. Market St. in Cortez. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, also at Ertel. Burial will take place afterward at Cortez Cemetery.
