Tony Schmitz


Tony Schmitz, brother of Durango resident Mary Mead, died Monday, April 29, 2013, in Lindrith, N.M. He was 76.

Mr. Schmitz was born to Antone and Ruhey Welch Schmitz on Jan. 13, 1937, in Ojito, N.M.

He was a lifelong rancher in Ojito.

“Tony was a visionary businessman in the oil field and ranching industry,” his family said. “He lived by honoring his word and leading by example.”

He was a deacon at the Lindrith Baptist Church.

Mr. Schmitz is survived by his wife, Darlene (Guymon) Schmitz, of Lindrith; sons, Tony Lee Schmitz and Craig D. Schmitz; sister, Mary Mead of Durango; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral will be held 1 p.m. today, May 2, 2013, at Lindrith Baptist Church, 1070 New Mexico Highway 595. The Rev. Chuck Self will officiate. Burial will take place in Ojito Cemetery.
