Sherry Anne Daniels

Durango resident Sherry Anne Daniels died after a four-year struggle with ovarian cancer Wednesday June 19, 2013, at her home. She was 64.

Mrs. Daniels was born to Robert and Ruth Frazer on Sept. 28, 1948, in Santa Monica, Calif. She grew up in California and earned a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University.

On July 25, 1970, she married Robert Daniels in La Cañada, Calif. The Daniels family moved to Durango in 1979.

After teaching for several years at Durango Early Learning Center, Mrs. Daniels taught first grade at Riverview Elementary School for about a decade.

“Sherry’s legacy of love is as bright and beautiful as her unforgettable smile that illuminated the lives of her beloved family and friends,” her family said. “Sherry made a difference in our lives by how she lived hers.”

Mrs. Daniels rejoiced in fun, family, food and adventure with friends, her family said. She loved projects, Scrabble on the beach, collecting and contemplating life. She disliked missing out on good times.

“She loved creativity, the outdoors, alone time, together time, games, silliness, a good laugh, Mexico and water, water, water of all types, river, lake and ocean,” her family said.

Mrs. Daniels is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert “Bobby” Daniels of Durango; sons Lucas Daniels and Will Daniels, both of Durango, and Brady Daniels of Philadelphia; three grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.

A memorial gathering will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, June 28, 2013, at the Elks Picnic Grounds on County Road 240A.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Mercy, 1 Mercado St., Suite 270, Durango, CO 81301.

Condolences may be sent to Robert Daniels and Family, 3316 East Fourth Ave., Durango, CO 81301.
