A&E Happenings for July 18

Outdoor museum Montrose artist Lewis Williams began his artist-in-residency Sunday at Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. Williams captures landscapes by incorporating the stylistic qualities of iconography (the production of religious images) and the images found in nature. “The national monument presents itself as an outdoor museum, and I love the twist it offers. More than 6,000 archeological sites are recorded,” Williams said. “You find them, you explore, and you make the discovery and connections. These I expect to show in my artistic efforts.” Williams will deliver a presentation and show his work at the conclusion of his residency at 1 p.m. July 21.
