Herald made two rookie grammar mistakes

The Herald had incorrect grammar in headlines two days in a row. The July 31 story, “‘Zero-net energy’ homes lets owners sell left-over electricity,” should read “...homes let owners ...”

On the July 30 front page, a headline began, “Demand for gun permits rise.” Demand doesn’t rise, it rises.

These are common rookie mistakes, but shouldn’t we expect more from professional writers? Rise isn’t referring to permits. The subject is demand.
