Oregonian encourages local grocery-bag fee

My husband and I have visited Durango several times as tourists and have no problem at all with bringing our own bags to shop – a very common practice in cities all around the country. With the nationwide economic downturn, we realize communities are thinking of different ways to save money rather than increase taxes.

Bravo to your City Council that is thinking ahead for the future of your community. A grocery-bag fee is the right direction for saving money in the long run. And it will cost megabucks later if nothing is done. A spoonful of medicine now is easier than major surgery later. Durango is a lovely town. We’ll be back.
