Height variance sets dangerous precedent

Progress and growth is a given in our county and I choose to live in our beautiful town with that in mind. I believe that we can affect and shape growth so the charm of our town remains in place.

The availability of lodging for guests and tourists is of great concern for our economic health, but I believe that we may be setting a precedent in approving the construction of the large/tall hotel on East Second Avenue. The approval of the variance for exceeding the height code of 55 feet is a precedent that we may regret. The next request for a variance in this code may be much higher. Do we really want high-rise buildings in the historic district? I think not.
