Flour Sack finds a home

Flour Sack Bakery has been creating buzz around town since clinching the Best Booth honor at Taste of Durango in May. While the ladies behind the venture, which specializes in extravagantly decadent cakes and goodies, had considered a downtown Main Avenue spot for their physical location, they are now in the final stages of getting situated at a mid-town location, 1849 Main Ave., which used to be the Brickhouse Cafe and now houses Your Flesh Tattoo. The bakery is located in the back of the building with its own access from 19th Street. Bakery manager Jess Fontaine and owner Kelly Walker plan to open the shop to walk-in business sometime toward the end of the month. They will start with coffee, breakfast pastries, cakes, pies and other treats in addition to growing their wedding cake business. Fontaine said Flour Sack plans to eke out its own niche in the somewhat crowded local bakery market. “What we’re here for is the sweet side of things,” she said, with mixer whirling in the background.
