Local mogul events were wins for all

Thanks should go out to the Durango Winter Sports Foundation coaches, parents, supporters, sponsors, Durango Mountain Resort and Durango Orthopedics & Spine for providing the great mogul competitions at Chapman Hill in January and more recently at DMR front and center on Pandemonium.

Coming from a state with quite a few mountain options to ski/board, ironically, we don’t have the mogul training opportunities/competitions that those in Durango are more fortunate to have locally. It’s been a win for our 9-year-old son and all the other young athletes participating in these events that came from Telluride and the numerous other Colorado resorts. They are the future of the sport.

It’s also a win financially for Durango. Like all other participants, we’d have stayed at our local mountains if it weren’t for these events. For just our family of three, on this last weekend, as an example, we spent $230 on discounted DMR tickets, $40 for food on the hill, $170 for a hotel in town, $60 on a tank of gas in town, and $100 on food in town. Again, all funds that we wouldn’t have spent if the mogul competition was not held.

I think the DMR event was a win for those on the lift watching the kids on the ride up the hill. The more of these events, the greater the visibility, the more the win for everyone.
