Elections coming April 1 for Bayfield and Ignacio

Voters in Ignacio and Bayfield are headed to the polls April 1 for municipal elections.

Bayfield has five candidates seeking election to three open seats on the Town Board. Also on the city ballot will be a request to raise the town sales tax from the current 2 percent to 3 percent, with the new money to be earmarked for street-related projects.

Incumbent Tom Au is not seeking another term.

In Ignacio, the mayor’s seat and four trustee seats are up for election.

Incumbent Mayor Stella Cox is the only candidate for her position. Board incumbents Dixie Melton, Lawrence Bartley, Cecilia Robbins and Tom Atencio are seeking re-election. Also on the ballot are former trustee and mayor Ena Millich, Edward Box III and Audrey Atencio.

The town also is seeking voter approval to publish ordinances by title only, with the full text to be posted for those who want to read them.

Voting will be in person at the respective town halls. Voters must be residents in town limits.
