Another go-around coming for television

Udall to raise issue with FCC leader while in Durango

U.S. Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo., will visit Durango this week to highlight the lack of access to in-state TV programming.

He will meet Wednesday with Federal Communications Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel and local leaders. Because of the way the FCC draws station boundaries, Southwest Colorado residents can’t get local information on news, weather and emergencies from their televisions. Current boundaries designate portions of Southwest Colorado as part of the Albuquerque-Santa Fe TV market.

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the 9-R School District Board Room at 201 east 12th St.

Udall is also scheduled to attend the Tuesday evening swearing-in ceremony of Sweetie Marbury as Durango mayor. The position of mayor rotates on the Durango City Council. She replaces Dick White, who remains a city councilor.

The senator also will meet with The Durango Herald’s editorial board.
