Demons channel their Demons

DHS boys lacrosse overpowers Glenwood Springs

It must feel nice to be on the other end of one of those.

The Durango High School boys lacrosse team showed how far its program has progressed with a 17-1 victory over the Glenwood Springs Demons on Saturday at home.

DHS (6-3, 3-2 Mountain League) outshot Glenwood Springs 42-3 and grabbed a 53-22 advantage in groundballs.

DHS goalie Walker Brown made two saves.

“We played hard pressure defense and limited their shots,” DHS head coach John Robinette said.

Eight different Durango players scored.

Liam Millar had one goal and five assists.

Kyle Robinette scored two goals, dished three assists and picked up eight groundballs.

Jacob Boyle tied for the team lead with three goals while also getting seven groundballs.

Jared Cook and Wesley Komick also had three goals each.

Hunter Hall scored twice and won 4-of-5 faceoffs.

Trevor Gabbard, a junior at Bayfield High School, scored two goals in Durango, then headed to Bayfield for the Pine River Invitational track meet and won the 3,200-meter run.

Duncan Whitley rounded out Durango’s scoring with a goal of his own.

The hometown Demons now will play four games in six days, starting at 7 p.m. Thursday against Bosque (Albuquerque).

It’s the first night game in DHS varsity lacrosse history.

“We’re hoping for good support on Thursday night – get a crowd and have some fun under the lights,” coach Robinette said.
