Washburn a whiz in the classroom

FLC sophomore earns RMAC Academic Men’s Golfer of the Year honors

Dillon Washburn has compiled a couple of prestigious awards in his short time at Fort Lewis College.

Washburn, a redshirt sophomore on the Skyhawks’ men’s golf team, was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Academic Men’s Golfer of the Year on Wednesday. The accolade comes only two weeks after Washburn was named the RMAC Men’s Golf Summit Award winner for having the highest cumulative grade-point average at the RMAC men’s golf championship in Goodyear, Arizona.

Washburn carried a 3.96 GPA this year while studying accounting.

“It’s a great honor and accomplishment for any student-athlete here at Fort Lewis College,” FLC head coach Bud Andersen said in a news release. “Dillon is a great kid who is developing his golf game to compete with the best in our conference and beyond. His hard work in the classroom has spread over to other teammates to make them better. Dillon is someone committed to be the best at whatever is in front of him.”

Washburn finished in a tie for 26th at the RMAC Spring Championship, shooting rounds of 76, 77 and 78. He was the third highest placer among the Skyhawks, and he helped the team to a seventh-place finish.
