Bookmark Contest winners announced

The Friends of the Durango Public Library announced winners of its annual Bookmark Contest and presented awards at the city council meeting Nov. 2.

All students from the Durango community schools were invited to submit ideas for bookmarks using original artwork with a book- or reading-related quote. More than 300 entries were judged according to three age groups: elementary, middle and high school. Winners in each group received a Kindle, and runners-up, a gift certificate to Maria’s Bookshop. Five hundred bookmarks have been printed of each of the six winning entries. Dates of 2016 Friends’ book sales are on the back side. All bookmarks will be available throughout the library, in the Friends’ bookstore, and at the front desk.

The winners are: Elementary school, first place, Tony Jack, Florida Mesa Elementary. Runner up, Jaina Rees, Fort Lewis Mesa Elementary. Middle school, first place, Sage Davis, Escalante Middle School. Runner up, Rainey Scott, The Liberty School. High school, first place, Fiona Hill, Big Picture High School.
