Durango High School assistant football coach Ryan Woolverton saw the Durango Demons open “spring” football practice Monday. The non-contact drills will be held through July 30. The Demons will host a scrimmage Saturday morning that will be open to the public. After the scrimmage, the team will host a benefit barbecue that will cost $10 per plate. The barbecue is scheduled to start about 10:30 a.m. Regular practices for the Demons begin Aug. 11. The team’s first game is Aug. 29 at home against Beckman High School from Irvine, California. The Demons are coming off a season in which they finished 8-3 and qualified for the playoffs, losing 36-26 to Denver South in the first round. The 2014 season will be head coach David Vogt’s second at the helm.
