A pair of former hoops stars hall-worthy

Two former basketball players will enter the Fort Lewis College Hall of Fame: Kevin Hatch and Troy Norton will be inducted Oct. 19 as the Class of 2014.

Hatch graduated in 2003 and ranks 15th all-time at FLC with 1,148 points.

Hatch’s point-total is the second most in a three-year Skyhawk career. He made 215 3-pointers, which ranks second in program history, and he set the program’s single-season record with 105 3s his senior year.

Hatch made two All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams and was a member of the Skyhawks’ first-ever team to make the NCAA Division II Tournament.

“Kevin was the best player on our first RMAC championship team in 2002,” said then-teammate and current FLC associate head coach Bob Pietrack in a news release. “He is a great person, great student and great player who deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.”

Norton played from 1989 to 1993 and ranks second all-time in program history in assists with 455 and fourth in steals at 180. He tied a program record with 15 assists in one game against Metro State in 1992.

“I believe Troy is one of the best point guards to have ever played at Fort Lewis College,” Durangoan and FLC Hall of Famer Tim Fitzpatrick said in the news release.

Hatch and Norton are the 39th and 40th men’s basketball student-athletes to enter the FLC Hall of Fame.

There are 136 athletes and five teams currently enshrined in the Hall of Fame.
