A Dove Creek mom and dad welcomed extraordinary quadruplets into the world on July 28 at a hospital in Denver.

Melissa and Matt Reid weren’t using fertility medications or even trying to have more children, making the birth very rare.

“They weren’t planning on a pregnancy; they were trying to prevent,” said Diane Brown, Melissa’s mother.

Now, more than a week after the birth, the Reids are still at the University of Colorado Hospital, and the whole family is healthy.

“She and the babies are doing great,” Brown said.

Melissa already has five children: ages 11, 9, 6, 5 and 18 months. When the couple found out they were expecting quadruplets, they decided to move from Nevada to Dove Creek to be closer to Melissa’s family for support. Melissa is from Idaho, but her mother is a Dove Creek native and has strong family ties in the area.

Since the couple moved, Matt has been working odd jobs to help support his family.

The new additions to the family included boys Ryder Lee and Kamden Chad and girls Aela Ann and Brinlee Diane.

“All four came out pink and crying and are doing great,” maternal fetal medicine specialist Dr. Meghan Donnelly told CBS in Denver.

According to CBS, “Baby A,” Ryder Lee, made a bold entrance into the world.

“I was sitting there, and I felt him come out, and the doctors were freaking out because they weren’t expecting that, you know,” Melissa told CBS.

“Mr. Ryder didn’t want to wait for us,” Donnelly said.

Donations for the family are being collected at the Dolores County Fair, Friday through Sunday. After the fair, donations including diapers and other baby-care items can be dropped off at the Dolores County Extension Office in the Dove Creek courthouse.
