16th annual Brewfest making its way to Durango

The Brew Pub & Kitchen was one of about 43 breweries at last year’s San Juan Brewfest in Buckley Park.

Attention beer aficionados: The 16th annual San Juan Brewfest will take place Aug. 23 at Buckley Park.

More than 50 breweries in conjunction with the Durango Business Improvement District will participate and raise funds for United Way of Southwest Colorado, a nonprofit that helps enable individuals and families achieve their potential through education, income stability and healthful lives.

More than 50 breweries from throughout the country, including Santa Fe Brewing Co., Moab Brewery, Deschutes Brewery, and Upslope Brewing Co., are slated to pour samples 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

All five of Durango’s local breweries – Brew, Carver’s, Durango, Ska and Steamworks – also will attend.

Four bands will take the stage during the afternoon, including the Hill Stompers from Los Alamos, New Mexico – a 20-piece marching band and fixture of Snowdown.

“The VIP tickets sold out for the first time in the event’s history,” said Tim Walsworth, executive director of the Durango Business Improvement District. “But there are plenty of $25 General Admission tickets remaining. Brewfest is a ton of fun supporting a terrific organization that does so much good work in our community.”

General admission tickets can be purchased in advance until 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at www.sanjuanbrewfest.com, or on Saturday at the gate.

For further information, visit www.sanjuanbrewfest.com or contact Walsworth at (970) 375-5068.
