FLC is picked to finish middle of pack

Adams State sweeps the RMAC cross country preseason polls

While national powerhouses Adams State and Western State again are the head of the pack, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference coaches again picked Fort Lewis College to finish somewhere in the middle of the pack.

Adams State, the two-time defending men’s national champion, received 13 first-place votes and 195 points overall to win the RMAC in Wednesday’s preseason coaches poll.

Western State, the defending RMAC champion, received the other two first-place votes and 180 overall.

Tabor Stevens, the Adams State senior and defending Division II national champion, was voted the RMAC Men’s Preseason Runner of the Year. Stephens and teammates Kevin Batt and Matt Daniels made the Preseason All-RMAC Team.

Lauren Martin, the Adams State senior and defending conference and regional champion, was voted the RMAC Women’s Preseason Runner of the Year. Martin and teammates Maura O’Brien and Melissa Roberts made the preseason honor roll.

Adams State received 14 first-place votes and 196 overall points to win the women’s division, while Western State received the other first-place vote and 182 total points to finish runner-up.

Ian Butler and Adam Sinda represented Western State on the men’s team and Cali Antolini on the women’s team.

Derek Alcorn and Phil Schneider from third-place Colorado Mines also were on the men’s preseason team.

Chloe Gustafson from fifth-place Colorado Mines and Breanna Hemming and Janelle Lincks from third-place Metro State were on the women’s preseason team.

FLC received 104 total points to finish eighth in the men’s poll.

FLC received 105 total points to finish seventh in the women’s poll.

In the men’s rankings, Metro State and UC-Colorado Springs were picked to finish fourth and fifth, respectively, followed by New Mexico Highlands and Black Hills State. After FLC, Colorado Mesa and Chadron State rounded out the top 10, and Colorado Christian, CSU-Pueblo, Regis, South Dakota Mines and Western New Mexico were picked to finish 11th through 15th.

In the women’s rankings, UC-Colorado Springs was picked to finish fourth, Chadron State sixth, then Colorado Mesa, N.M. Highlands, Colorado Christian, CSU-Pueblo, Black Hills State, Regis, Western N.M. and South Dakota Mines.
