RMAC dials Doyle

FLC quarterback named Offensive Player of the Week
Fort Lewis College junior quarterback had a standout performance Saturday in a big comeback win against Oklahoma Panhandle State. He accounted for 455 yards of total offense for FLC in the win.

Orchestrating a 21-point comeback is one way to get noticed.

Fort Lewis College junior quarterback Jordan Doyle was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after he led the Skyhawks to a big 45-38 road win at Oklahoma Panhandle State University.

He also was announced the National Football Foundation – Colorado Chapter Player of the Week, which includes every Colorado collegiate team.

FLC (1-1) trailed the Aggies 28-10 at halftime and 31-10 early in the third quarter before the Skyhawks mounted the comeback. Panahandle State (0-2) had great success with multiple blitzes in the first half, as they eliminated the Skyhawks’ running game. FLC head coach John L. Smith made an adjustment at halftime and ran a spread offense in the second half. With five wide receivers split out, Doyle was the only rusher in the backfield for the Skyhawks.

That led to 119 rushing yards and three touchdowns, and Doyle also had 373 passing yards and another two passing touchdowns, including the game-winning 38-yard strike to Esley Simmons III. Doyle’s rushing total was reduced to 86 net yards after four sacks.

This season, Doyle is 52-of-90 passing for 589 yards and three touchdown passes.

Darius Allen of Colorado State University-Pueblo was the RMAC Defensive Player of the week after the ThunderWolves upset Division I Sam Houston State 47-21. Four of Allen’s five tackles were sacks, and he also forced a fumble. The ThunderWolves had eight sacks and forced two turnovers in the win.

CSU-Pueblo kicker Greg O’Donnell was the Special Teams Player of the Week. He accounted for 17 of the team’s 47 points against FCS No. 15 Sam Houston State. O-Donnell was 5-for-5 on extra points and 4-of-5 on field goal tries on kicks from 18, 21, 39 and 46 yards. Five of his 10 kickoffs also went for touchbacks.

FLC will open the RMAC schedule at 1 p.m. Saturday at Black Hills State University. CSU-Pueblo (2-0) will travel to face Western State (1-1).
