BHS football is at the end of a road

Wolverines will come home with a 1-0 record in Western Slope play

The Bayfield High School football team put the rest of the Western Slope South League on notice with a 48-22 road win Friday night at Olathe.

BHS (3-2, 1-0 WSL South) was playing its fourth consecutive game on the road and snapped a two-game losing streak.

BHS junior running back Zane Phelps found the endzone three times for the Wolverines. He ran the ball in twice and caught an 18-yard pass from junior quarterback Kelton McCoy.

McCoy and BHS junior running back Brody McGhehey also ran for touchdowns.

BHS senior running back Anthony Chamblee scored on a 60-yard punt return with 4 minutes, 43 seconds left in the first half to put BHS up 28-0 at halftime. He later scored on a 7-yard run.

Olathe (3-2, 0-1 WSL South) scored all 22 of its points after halftime.

BHS senior Colter McMenimen had two interceptions in the first half.

After a month of road games, the Wolverines finally will return home to face Gunnison at 7 p.m. Friday at Wolverine Country Stadium.
