Tied at 5 after three innings of play, the Durango Demons rallied for a 13-6 victory over Montezuma-Cortez on Tuesday in Cortez to win their regular-season finale and give themselves a shot at the Class 4A playoffs.
The win, according to Durango High School softball head coach Chelsea Rodriguez, gives the Demons a chance at the CHSAA Class 4A Girls Softball State Championships.
“If we beat Cortez on Tuesday, and then Cortez beats Montrose in a makeup game, then there will a tiebreaker,” Rodriguez said after Saturday’s split at Montrose. “We very well could get there. The girls have worked really hard, and I would love to see the girls get it.”
According to CHSAA, all regular-season games must be completed by Saturday. The CHSAA Regional Pairings Committee Meeting will meet Sunday, and the regional tournament is Oct. 11.
The CHSAA State Pairing Committee Meeting will meet Oct. 13, and the state tournament is Oct. 17-18 at Aurora State Park.
The Demons finished their regular season 8-11 overall and 2-9 in the Southwestern League.
