I am writing to say how heartened I was to wake up the other day to some positive, global news for a change: President Obama’s recent designation to expand the Pacific Remote Islands National Monument. The monument protects a vast ocean ecosystem, incredible sea life, and no doubt harbors a waiting treasure trove for the scientific community to explore.

What a bold move. He has countered our unrelenting trend to exploit and ruin the environment for short gain, in favor of leaving something lasting and beautiful for our descendants.
