Durango sweeps Grand Junction Valley

DHS volleyball goes 2-for-2 at Grand Junction and Grand Junction Central

Chalk up another road win for the Durango Demons.

The Durango High School volleyball team (12-7, 5-2 Southwestern League) completed a weekend sweep of the Grand Junction Class 5A schools with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-22) victory at Grand Junction Central (2-13, 0-8 SWL) on Saturday morning. It came one day after the Demons beat Grand Junction 3-1.

“It was great. The girls were just happy with their performance, because they know they played well,” DHS head coach Colleen Keresey said. “They’re excited. No matter what the result, we always feel good when we play good volleyball, and we did that.”

Logan Clark, a senior setter for DHS, totaled 35 assists in the three sets. Junior middle blocker Raven Fallon-Cyr had nine kills, and sophomore outside hitter Alli Davis had another nine kills and five blocks.

“We have three great middles, and it is fun to let them rotate and watch them compete every day in practice,” Keresey said. “We really had a bunch of great hustle plays from everybody that won long rallies and key points for us all day.”

DHS had six aces as a team.

The Demons have just three games remaining in the regular season. They will play home games at 6 p.m. Friday and 11:30 a.m. Saturday against Grand Junction and league-leader Montrose, respectively. DHS then will close out the season the next week at Montezuma-Cortez.
