Proposition 105 is not good enough

I am going to vote “yes” on Proposition 105 since at least it’s a step in the right direction, but it is so poorly stated and so watered down that it is mere tokenism and virtually meaningless doublespeak that might have been drafted by the likes of Monsanto.

It does appear to require foods that are genetically modified to be so labeled, so at least we have some knowledge of ingredients and can attempt to protect our health by not purchasing it, but read the proposal carefully and notice the exemptions – and the last sentence, “no private right of action is created for failure to conform to the labeling requirements.” So much for our desire to be fully informed about what is on the shelves in our supermarkets. We have to do better than this.
