County makes tax liens public

A total of 619 La Plata County property owners are behind on their taxes on stick-built and manufactured homes this year.

The list released this week by the La Plata County Treasurer and Public Trustee office shows 483 owners of real property are behind $478,096.65 and that 136 owners of manufactured homes owe $8,394.37.

The amounts don’t include interest or penalties, said Treasurer Edward J. Murray.

By far the largest amount of tax owed is $33,592.19 by Willis Investments of Durango, LLC on property in the Fassbinder subdivision.

The least amount owed is $55.30 by Victor Pennell.

The list of delinquent taxes will be published today in The Durango Herald, and it will reappear in this publication Oct. 24 and Oct. 31.

Murray said the taxes apply to 2013.

Public sale of tax liens will begin at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 14 in the meeting room of county commissioners, 1060 East Second Ave. If necessary, the sale will begin at the same time and place on successive days, including Saturday and Sunday.

No tax lien may be sold to an elected or appointed official or to a county employee or to a member of the immediate family of such person nor to the agent of any such county official or employee during the time the official or employee holds office or is employed, Murray said in a statement.
