Roadrunners walk away with a 1-0 victory

FLC women’s soccer will return home 5-5-5 overall

After a scoreless first half at Auraria Field on the Metro State campus in Denver, the Roadrunners found the net twice early in the second half, then held on for a 2-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory.

Abby Rolph scored a penalty-kick goal in the 53rd minute when Alex Arellano fouled Karisa Price in the box.

Carly Nelson made it 2-0 Metro State (12-1-2, 9-0-2 RMAC) in the 55th minute when she cleaned up a cross that bounced through the box and caught Fort Lewis College goalkeeper Caitlyn Espinosa on the other side of the goal.

FLC got one back when on a penalty-kick goal of their own. Jordan Post committed the foul, and Ana Moran converted the PK for a 2-1 game.

Metro State outshot FLC 15-10 and 9-5 on goal. Each team had four corner kicks. Metro State had two yellow cards to the Skyhawks’ one, and there were 22 fouls in the game (FLC had 13 fouls to the Roadrunners’ 9).

FLC (5-5-5, 4-3-4 RMAC) will host UC-Colorado Springs at 1 p.m. Sunday at Dirks FIeld in Durango.
