FLC track and field lands 1st female recruits

The Fort Lewis College track and field program made history Tuesday with its first female recruit.

Bridgett Gantt, a three-year track and field letterwinner for Sand Creek High School in Colorado Springs, signed her National Letter of Intent to jump and sprint for the Skyhawks in the spring of 2016.

“Bridgett is our first recruit signee for the women’s track and field program at Fort Lewis College,” FLC head coach Mark Dutro said Tuesday in a news release to The Durango Herald.

“She has a sister who runs for UCCS, so a little (intraleague) rivalry will be interesting and a fun prospect,” Dutro said of Hayley Gantt, a freshman jumper and sprinter for the UC-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions.

Victoria Quintana is the Skyhawks’ second recruit from Santa Fe High School in as many days. Quintana is a four-year cross country and track and field runner for the Demons.

The FLC women’s basketball program recruited Quintana’s high school classmate Kayla Herrera.

“Not only will she make an impact right away to our cross country team but will also be a boost to the distance portion of our women’s track team,” Dutro said.

FLC will compete in its inaugural track and field meet Jan. 16 at Western State Colorado University in Gunnison.
