Numerous rural mail thefts reported

Vandals targeted Christmas cards, packages

The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office is investigating numerous reports of mail theft and vandalism on County Roads 510, 207, 222, 225, 228, 229 and 230, as well as in the Alpine Shadows subdivision. The incidents occurred from 3 p.m. Dec. 20 to 8 a.m. Dec. 21. The Sheriff’s Office has no suspects or vehicle description.

Residents reported cards or packages that had been stolen or opened and resealed, apparently in search of money or other valuables, a statement from the Sheriff’s Office said.

Residents also reported damaged Christmas lights and mailboxes.

Anyone with information may call sheriff’s investigator Jim Hendricks at 382-7018.
