Small plane crash kills 2

Pilot headed from Texas to Durango

Two people died when a small airplane headed for Durango from Georgetown, Texas, crashed Monday near Vaughn, New Mexico, the National Transportation Board reported.

Eyewitness News 4 KOB based in Albuquerque reported Civil Air Patrol pilots from Albuquerque helped ground crews locate the wreckage of a Piper PA-2B. Vaughn is east of Albuquerque.

The plane disappeared from air traffic control the day it left Texas.

NTSB investigators were on scene Friday and are expected to be at the scene Saturday.

The identity of the victims has not been released, and the reason for the disaster isn’t known.
