Seedlings available for school projects

Teachers with workshop experience must apply
Geoff Craig helps his son, Andre, plant a seedling tree at Deer Hill Expeditions. Volunteers replaced trees in Weber Canyon that were destroyed in the 2012 fire. Seedlings are available to teachers who want to promote forest health.

The Colorado State Forest Service is accepting applications from educators for seedlings for planting projects on public or private land.

Teachers must have taken a Project Learning Tree workshop in the past eight years or take it this year to be eligible to receive the seedlings.

In 2014, 13 schools from preschools to colleges received 2,000 seedlings to promote student involvement in projects promoting forest health.

Teachers may receive up to 200 trees each. State foresters can recommend species selection, method for planting and long-term care.

Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Jan. 31. Visit www.coloradoplt.org for information or to enroll.
